In 2019, MDI partnered with the French Media Development Agency (CFI) to organize 04 training courses for journalists writing about climate change and the environment, which focused on long-form writing, video journalism. and data journalism.

Long-form Journalism

Long-form journalism requires the most rigorous of journalistic skills, which many news reporters lack today. MDI’s course aims to provide the writing and research skills needed for long-form work, with close supervision from the lecturers.

Video Storytelling

Video is now very popular with online newsrooms. However, current videos are simply reporting news, while it should be telling stories. The MDI video journalism course is designed to improve this skill so that reporters can use the videos they shot to edit and tell stories in a more engaging way.

Data Journalism

Data journalism is a very important skill for journalists. It can help journalists write with solid, concrete evidence. It can also be a tool to help journalists find stories. Data visualization is also important because it makes the story more compelling and engaging.

There is a limited number of journalists in Vietnam who currently possess such skills. There are also very few newsrooms in Vietnam that currently use data journalism. Therefore, the MDI data journalism course aims to provide reporters with the essential knowledge of data, how to use data to write long-form articles, as well as how to use data visualization tools.
